Abstract

This report reflects the learning process developed over the intership set in the context of the Master's Degree in Nursing with Specialization in Mental Health and Psychiatry. By listing the goals outlined and the activities implemented to achieve them, are presented the skills acquired through the above specialization. The stage was developed in three stages: Module I – Promotion oh healthy lifestyles, diagnosis and prevention – in Unidade de Cuidados na Comunidade de S. Mamede de Infesta, where I could prove the many gains that people can enjoy with the specific intervention of the nurse specialist in mental health in the prevention of disease and promotion of mental health. By participating in the project “Promotion of Mental Health in the Elderly”, I could develop relational and communication skills, in the area of domiciliary visits as well as specific skills within the psychotherapeutic intervention, specifically, the technique of cognitive restructuring. Module II - Developing skills in units of crisis intervention for adults – in Service C, Unidade C4 do Hospital Magalhães Lemos, EPE where I could acquire and develop specific knowledge and skills, specifically in the evaluation of the psychiatric patient, the characterization of their specific needs and development of individual and group care of the psychiatric patient in a situation of worsening of their disease. Module III - Optional – in Unidade de Desabituação do Norte where I could acquire specific skills in providing care to the patient with psychoactive substances dependence, specifically, about the technique of behavior modification and motivational approach of the user in the process of change inherent in relapse prevention. This report aims to describe, critically and reflectively, the course made throughout the stage, highlighting the best moments that seem to mirror the immensity of experience that allowed me to acquire specific skills as a nurse specialist in mental health and psychiatry.
