Abstract

This report presents a description, as well as a critical reflection, of activities carried out within the family psychology master's program during the school year of 2011/2012. The training course was developed in a private social solidarity institution of Viana do Castelo, named Gabinete de Atendimento à Família. The activities were divided into two categories, observation and intervention. The first group includes observing two family skills training programmes and two family therapy interventions. Observing programmes resulted in a description of each program, including the presentation of goals, theoretical principles and structure. A critical reflection of sessions it was also made, as well our own participation and skills learning. Observing family therapy intervention resulted in cases conceptualization and treatment planning. The second group of activities includes implementing a family program, targeted couples with children, purposing a reflection on essential aspects of family development, and a group reflection, targeted parents with children between 17 and 25 years, which objective is reflecting on transition to adulthood. For both activities, this report will provide descriptions of goals, theoretical principles, structure, development, and evaluation results.
