Abstract

This report comes in the context of the Master Course in Nursing Specialization in the area of Pediatric and Child Health at the Institute of Health Sciences from Catholic University of Portugal whose purpose is to describe the objectives and activities throughout the three modules internship and analyze them critical-reflectively. To perform the internship modules, drew up Health Promotion as transversal theme, based on Health Promotion Model of Nola Pender assumes that empower individuals to lifestyle and healthy behaviors, which, at the level of Pediatrics, demand a look at the child, and supposes the involvement of the family acting up, according to the diagram of the model at the level of specific behaviors and understanding of the benefits and barriers to action and self-efficacy. Methodologically, the building of the report focused on evidence-based practice, the studies found in the systematic review of the literature, the experience as a nurse and needs of families. The module I divided: Community Resources, operating a stage of observation and reflecting on the relevance and linkage of the Nurse Specialist in Pediatric and Child Health (NSPCH) in these institutions; Healthcare Personalized Unit intervening up the Promotion of Exclusive Breastfeeding, developing an adviser guide to the Consultation, a leaflet and a meeting of health education for pregnant whose evaluation (between levels 4-5) showed their interest and knowledge assimilation. In Module II (Medicine Service) intervened in the Oral Hygiene Promotion developing a checklist of guidelines, a session of health education and a leaflet. At this level amounted to knowledge of children, and proceeded to his referral to outpatient dental. In Module III (Pediatric Emergency Services and Neonatal Intensive Care) proved relevant, respectively, to intervene in the Prevention of Drug Use, carrying out a leaflet and poster with information directed to parents, as well as a training session for nurses, involving them in the work developed and evaluated by the same (as to content and usefulness) levels 4-5, and intervene in the Breastfeeding Promotion / Feed Breastmilk in newborns, as appropriate, the result of which led to the acquisition of knowledge and the achievement of correct breastfeeding technique and / or extraction of milk. Along this path came up skills inherent in a NSPCH, since communicational, relational, theoretical and practical skills.
