Abstract

This report was elaborated in the scope of the Master's Degree of Nursing with professional nature and specialization in Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing of Instituto de Ciências da Saúde da Universidade Católica Portuguesa. This report refers to an internship period from 28th April of 2014 to 21st January of 2015, being that same internship split into three different modules. Those modules were performed in the following locations, all of them belonging to Casa de Saúde do Bom Jesus: Module I - Gabinete Integrado de Serviços em Saúde Mental, in the movable unit of homecare and the socio-occupational unit; Module II - Unidade de S. José, unit of medium/long term internment; Module III - Unidade de Reabilitação (rehabilitation unit). This document intends to report my training path during the internship of the specialization in Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing. It translates my analysis and reflection review of the developed and acquired skills inherent to the Nurse Specialist in Mental Health and Psychiatry, as well as the progress and factors that contributed to my learning, the difficulties that I've felt regarding my experiences and the accomplishment of the objectives and interventions outlined to the internship. In short, I consider that this training path contributed to the acquisition and development of a diverse range of professional and personal skills, namely the specific ones of the Nurse Specialist in Mental Health and Psychiatry. From the fulfilled activities, I highlight the implementation of a program of Cognitive Stimulation and a Management of Medicine Regime Training.
