Abstract

The nurse specialist in medical and surgical nursing has developed specific competences that correspond to criteria established both by the Nurses’ Order and also by Nursing School of the Health Sciences Institute of Portuguese Catholic University. This report aims to clarify the objectives, activities and skills acquired in the specialty in medical-surgical nursing, using the criteria already mentioned. It establishes the report in three fundamental pillars of construction. Professional Deontology of nursing, nursing care to the person in a situation of vulnerability and the development of skills. Domestic violence in Portugal has grown exponentially in recent yars both at the level of denunciation and in perpetuating crime. It is in the context of domestic violence that a review of the literature was carried out whose objective was to identify specific interventions in the nursing care to the person victim of domestic violence. The course stages, inherent to this course, were developed at the Intensive Car Unite and at the Central Emergency Department of the Santa Maria’s Hospital, in Lisbon and at the Emergency Medical and Reanimation Vehicle of Beatriz Ângelo’s Hospital, in Loures.
