Abstract

This report appears on the extent of the master degree in nursing, with specialization course in Infant and Paediatric Health, of the Health Sciences Institute of the Catholic Portuguese University. It shows the learning process throughout the internship, where skills were developed and attained for the specialised care required by specialized nurses. The internship in Infant and Paediatric Health was carried out in two modules, being module one held in Family Health Unit of Freamunde and in the Care Unit in the community of Felgueiras. Both included in the Assembly of Healthcare Centres of Vale de Sousa North. Module three was accomplished in the Service of Neonatology and in the Paediatric Emergency Service of São João Hospital. Through module two we obtained crediting by previous professional experience. Based on intended general goals in the study programme of the course and the assembly of specialized nurse skills among areas like: care provision, healthcare management, training and research in nursing, I have defined precise goals that have outlined the planning and the achievement of activities, as well as the mobilization of the acquired knowledge throughout my personal and professional journey. The internship path supported by the critical thinking and with the help of systematic bibliographic research, has allowed the acquisition of knowledge, skills and inherent competences of specialized nursing care in the Child Health and Paediatric section
