The child has become an object of particular importance in the social framework and within the family environment. However, this emphasis represents challenges for children and their families as they are absorbed by numerous influences that can make them vulnerable, particularly regarding health, as this reflects their development, health status and cultural background. The particularities associated with each child/young person and family require differentiated attention, imposing challenges on nursing who must adapt their care to the individuality of this binomial, defining the development of a set of specific skills in Child and Pediatric Health Nursing that aim for excellence of care. This report represents the path to obtaining skills in the Master's Degree in Nursing with Specialization in Child and Pediatric Health Nursing, at the School of Nursing – Porto, at the Health Institute of the Portuguese Catholic University, within the scope of the Unit Final Internship Curriculum and Report, during the internship in the contexts of neonatal intensive care, pediatric emergency service and primary health care. This document was organized taking as a reference the four areas of competencies that emerge from the study plan of the Master's Degree in Nursing, specifically, Care Provision, Care Management, Training and Research. From the path taken towards mastery and development of specialized skills, the main activities carried out to achieve the objectives are described, from a reflective and critical perspective, in close relationship with the best scientific evidence. I recognized the explicit relevance of specialist nurses in the spheres of Management, Training and Research, always aiming to preserve safety and the primacy of the care provided. I highlight the particular focus on the issue of children´s exposure to screens and the negative effects that can result from it, a subject that guided my interventions towards promoting parenting and child and youth health, as well as developing researching skills, through the Integrative Literature Review carried out, and the training skills as a member that facilitates and promotes the training progress. Nevertheless, subjects such as communication with the child/young person and family, particularly complex situations, development-centered care, and care partnerships were not disregarded. This training journey proved to be fundamental for the acquisition and consolidation of skills that will allow me to provide care in a more remarkable way and with the excellence that care advocates, but mostly transformative in the way this care for the child/young person and family made me feel.
