Abstract

This report comes as part of the Master in Nursing with Specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing, after completing the three Modules Internships; Module III- Optional module held at Personalized Unity Health Care in S. Roque; Module I in Emergency Service in the Hospital Center of Vila Nova de Gaia/Espinho; Module II Intensive Medicine Service at the Hospital Pedro Hispano, the period 26 April 2012 to 2 February 2013. The goals of its execution are: reflect on the general and specific goals of the internship; explore the learning opportunities of the internship; describe the improvement strategies implemented; describe the developed activities; improve the reflexive capability. The used methodology was descriptive analytics. This path had the mission to develop and deepen the skills in professional, ethical and legal practices, care, quality and resource management. In this learning process I emphasize the provision of care to the patient and family, the ability to analyze complex situations and reflection on the issues that influence this dynamic and their effects on health. In this sphere it seemed appropriate to explore and reflect on communication in its various forms and its importance in interpersonal relationships. Certain topics were addressed such as death in Emergency Service and Intensive Medicine Service, with its consequent implications on healthcare and its team. As common focus of this path, the pain, the source of reflection and nursing interventions. I highlight as more specific aspects; the overall assistance to patients with chronic wounds, the importance of domiciliary context and respect for the individual and family, infection control in Intensive Medicine Service, the nurse's role and its implications on the health condition of the patient. In quality and resources management, I highlight the reflection on the costs associated with healthcare, the benefits and resources management efficiently. It was addressed the issue of nursing records as a way to produce quality indicators in nursing in order to measure health gains and also to demonstrate the social usefulness of the profession and visibility of the professional practice of nurses. In training, we searched for areas liable to improvement in the contexts of internship and elaborate trainings with the goal of bridging and contribute to the improvement of healthcare. It was developed a training in Module III about “Wound Care”, it was developed in Module I a training and a poster on "Prevention of Pressure Ulcers" and in Module II was elaborated a training on "Cutaneous and skeletal tractions". I believe that this route has contributed decisively to the acquisition of skills, as verified progress in my ability to diagnose, decide, execute and evaluate in order to systematically search the area of improving the quality of care. In short, the nurse specialist can play a role in referential observation, collection, continuous search in a systematic and systematic data, in order to continuously meet the situation of the person targeted care.
