Abstract

The writing of this report arises in the scope of the Nursing Master’s Degree in the specializing area of Children’s Health and Pediatrics from the Institute of Science and Health of the Catholic University. Within this report, I will try to develop some reflexive dynamics over the professional practices, the interaction with the Specialized Nurses in Children’s Health and Pediatrics in different clinical contexts, to convey the activities that took place during those practices and interaction, the objectives subjacent to them and the acquiring of skills. In accordance with the course’s studies plan, the Internship is divided in three Modules that were carried out at the following locations: Module I at the UCC of Vila Verde, Module II at the Pediatrics Hospitalization Services of the Braga Hospital and Module III, divided in two parts, the first at the Urgency Services of São João Hospital Centre and the second at the Neonatology Intensive Care Unit (UCIN) of the Braga Hospital. This Internship comprised a total of 551 hours of direct contact and 210 hours of individual work. I took place between April 23rd, 2012 and January 28th, 2013. In this report I try to give an overview of my route along the Internship, reflecting on the work done, the acquired and developed skills and describing, reflecting and evaluating the lived experiences. Structurally, I have divided the skills into four parts: healthcare, management, training and investigation. Over each part, I have developed a reflexive and critical analysis of the specific objectives planned for the different internship modules and the necessary actions to carry them out. I also would like to emphasize the way this Internship has contributed for my acquisition of new skills as a Specialized Nurse in Children’s Health and Pediatrics.
