This report appears to obtain a master's degree on Nursing with specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing, after completion of two internship modules, one in the National Institute of Medical Emergencies in the period from April 26th to June 23rd and the other in an Emergency room at the S. João Hospital, in the period from October 1st to November 26th, and it is structured in four Competency Domains using the descriptive and analytical method, through critical analysis of concrete situations, based on scientific evidence, with suggestions for improvement and resolution of identified problems. In the Provision of Specialist Care Domain, the ability to analyze complex situations and reflect on real situations, with adequate reasoning is an essential skill of Specialist Medical-Surgical Nurse, which was developed by the critical judgment through the discussion of relevant topics with the teams. Were asked the team, informally, some questions of the scale "Importance of Families in Nursing Care - Attitudes of Nurses," in order to better understand the attitudes of these professionals with families. In the Care Management Domain it is enhanced the performance of care plans and participation as a trainer in two actions to raise awareness of Basic Life Support and activation of the European emergency number. Noteworthy is also the formations developed on Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation and on Abdominal Compartment Syndrome. In this area came also the realization of two case studies based on the Kolkaba’s comfort theory. A case study was presented as a poster, aiming to capture the attention and motivation of nurses. With the awareness of the importance of nursing diagnoses and the respective interventions identification, those were identified and listed in both internship modules. In the Quality Management Domain, it was highlighted the identification of improvement opportunities and the strategies suggested in the context of infection control, risk management, training of population and improvement of nursing records. In the Professional, Ethical and Legal Practice Domain it was emphasized the critical reflections arising from concrete situations, including on the right to be revived, the presence of family members during resuscitation, informed consent and the right of refusal of care. The internship allowed contact with emergency situations, with new realities, deepening of critical awareness and skills development reflecting the performance of nursing as a specialist.
