The care of critically ill patients and relatives present particularities related to the complexity of disease processes and/or organic dysfunction. This particularities demand the development of specialized skills. Regarding this subject, and associated to the Nursing Mastery for the Medical-Surgical Specialization of the Portuguese Catholic University, this report was submitted to describe and analyze the knowledge and skills acquired for the treatment of critically ill patients and relatives. This report describes and evaluates the activities performed, stressing professional aspects related to management skills, communication skills, evidence-based practices and infection control and prevention.
