Abstract

The growing scientific and technological development advocates that nurses are kept constantly updated in order to provide care closer to excellence. In this sense, the Masters Course in Nursing with specialization in Medical Surgical Nursing, Institute of Health Sciences, Catholic University of Portugal - Porto is a plus, since it enables the development and acquisition of knowledge and skills in the field of Medical surgical. This report is the culmination of an evolutionary process through which I try to show how it developed throughout the process of learning and behavior change that targeted the acquisition and development of skills. Thus, I adopted the methodology descriptive and analytical and reflective, based on the portfolios of modules stage, using the bibliographic as a means of substantiating the experiences. Thus, for the preparation of the report described, using the reflective critical analysis of the activities and strategies implemented during the stage in ER Hospital Center and St. John in the Intermediate Care Unit Multipurpose Local Health Unit in Matosinhos reasons for the skills acquired for professional practice as Nurse Specialist in Medical Surgical Nursing. The stages made it possible to develop various experiences, realizing ways of designing and organizing work, ways of acting on certain clinical situations, awareness of values, standards and rules to act by facilitating the active appropriation of scientific knowledge integrated into the knowledge of experience, allowing incorporate the various areas of attention in the care of critically ill patients. I believe that this long course contributes to my practice is increasingly rigorous in search of Quality Standards that the Order of Nurses advocates for profession since enabled the acquisition of specific knowledge in the area of Medical Surgical Nursing, as well as acquire skills fundamental in order to continue the search for excellence of care.
