Abstract

This Practice Report was developed under the scope of the UC: “Estágio Final e Relatório” of the 13th Master’s degree in Nursing, with Specialization in Child and Pediatric Health, from the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, no Porto. With it, it’s intended to explain the course developed for the acquisition of specialized skills and master in nursing child and pediatric health. Professional experience in pediatric care is a strong foundation in this process of skills development and internship contexts improve them. Thus, it’s explained the contribution of the professional reality to the skills development process (previously acquired skills). After, the skills inherent in obtaining a master's degree with the specialization in child and pediatric health are grouped into four areas of performance (Care Delivery, Management, Training and Research) structuring the report in an exposition with a reflective character of the path taken, the objectives that have been outlined and how nursing activities and actions have been carried out to achieve these competencies. The aspects mobilized during the internship were diverse, but can be pointed child development, health surveillance, care partnership, promotion parenting and parental support in situations of special complexity such as particular attention and deepening. The constant reflective exercise and the foundation of activities in the most actual evidence contribute to the development of evidence-based practice, essential for the quality of specialized nursing care to the binomial: child and family. The process of acquiring skills combined with professional experience makes an unparalleled contribution to the academic path, highlighting the importance of continuous training and professional development in Nursing.
