Abstract

The production of this report comes within the scope of the Master's course in Nursing with a specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the area of Persons in Critical Situation, from the Universidade Católica Portuguesa do Porto and aims to translate the path taken in the development of skills at an academic level as well as the professional and personal level. This document intends to explain and reflect the path taken towards the development of specialized competences. Its content reflects the need for specialist nurses to develop their skills beyond generalized care and focus their intervention on a specialized area. Thus, this aims to describe the activities developed for the proposed objectives, address the path taken and reflect on the skills developed. The elaboration of this report contemplates the contextualization of the internship locations, reflecting on the process of acquiring skills. This reflection focused on a critical-reflexive analysis of the development of competences, organized according to the common competences of the specialist nurse, defined by the Ordem dos Enfermeiros. Within the scope of competence development, a literature review was carried out on a relevant topic and transversal to all the internship fields carried out. The theme chosen was the “Debriefing on increasing the efficiency of the emergency resuscitation team” and aimed at a search for greater scientific evidence, in order to improve clinical practice. Therefore, a critical and reflective analysis of the specialist nurse's competence development process is carried out, based on the four domains of common competences shared by the various Nursing specialties. In short, the constraints caused by the COVID-19 pandemic imposed some challenges in achieving all the proposed objectives, however these were successfully overcome.
