Abstract

This report is presented in the scope of the Master in Nursing Course in the specialization area of Medical-Surgical Nursing, of the Health Sciences Institute of the Portuguese Catholic University, and intends to highlight critically and reflexively the activities and skills developed during the internships, as well as the importance in the development and performance as Specialist Nurse. In the course of the internship, individualized and specialized care was provided to the person, and their family, with chronic or palliative illness as well as to the Person, and family, in critical situation. The stage for Module I was developed in a Central Hospital Service, allowing mobilizing and acquiring knowledge and skills in the area of care provided to the person with chronic or palliative illness in the different areas of urgency. In this way, in-service training was promoted, sublimating the importance of the evaluation of the Borg Scale for the evaluation of dyspnoea, in promoting the comfort of the hospitalized patients. The stage related to Module II Intensive Care was credited for performing functions as a nurse in the Cardiac Insufficiency Service and an intermediate care unit of cardiology at a central hospital in the Lisbon region. In this chapter there is a critical reflection on the activities carried out and the skills developed during my professional experience.Module III corresponded to an optional stage that focused on an antimicrobial infection prevention and control program carried out at the central hospital, allowing the mobilization and acquisition of knowledge and skills for the Person and family in a critical situation, performing in-service training on nursing care Specialized for the prevention of the infection of the urinary tract associated to the catheterization, promoting the continuous improvement of the nursing care. A systematic review of the literature on this subject was carried out, which is the main theme of this report. At the end is reported the conclusions of the work carried out which I believe have contributed to the sustainability of nursing care with quality, competence, safety, science and humanism, progressing towards autonomy in specialized clinical practice, attributes that are required to daily practice.
