Abstract

The present report is inserted in the study plan of the V Post-Graduate Course of Nursing with specialty in Medical-Surgical Nursing of the Institute of Sciences of the Health of the Portuguese Catholic University. This paper comes as a final and illustrative document of the knowledge gathered throughout the internship in advanced nursing assistance to the sickly adult and elderly, and particularly to the patient in critical state. The elaboration this document, has as a general goal to give visibility to the argumentative-reflexive analysis of the activities developed, illustrating the competences gained, in a Specialized Nurse’s perspective and later Master. The II Module was held in the Intensive Care Unit of the Hospital of Braga, allowing us to acquire/improve knowledge and competences in the intensive care area. In this unit, the contributions given were the project of monitoring of the Delirium of patients admitted to the unit and the elaboration of a form for the prevention of Pneumonia Associated to the Ventilator, as well as reflections on new evidence, related technique aspiration of secretions, residues gastric and infections of urinary tract. The III Module corresponded to Pre-Hospital Assistance that was held in the North Delegacy of the National Institute of Medical Emergency, allowing us to mobilize/acquire knowledge and competences in this field. In this module the contributions given were the sharing of new findings related hypothermia therapeutic, we also promoted a mass training on Basic Support of Life, with the intent of strengthening the Chain of Survival, as well as organizing a visit for firefighters of Póvoa de Lanhoso to the Center of Guidance for Urgent Patients with the intention to fortify the Integrated System of Medical Emergency. The method used is descriptive and argumentative-reflexive, supported by the Internship Project, the Portfolios, as wells as the bibliographic research held for the theoretical and scientific substantiation of all actions and decision-making. Structurally, the paper is divided into three parts. Initially we do an introduction where the framework of the report in the course, a brief characterization of the places of the internship and the justification of their selection are stipulated. In the development of the document, we describe the situations of the learning process which we faced, focusing on the proposed goals and the activities developed, in order to acquire the competences inherent to the Specialized Nurse in Medical-Surgical Nursing. Finally, we left a concluding note where we do a retrospective analysis of the main learnings, of the contingencies that distinguished the trajectory, and the marks that this formative period left on our personal and professional development. With this paper, we intend to demonstrate in a global way, the competences acquired and their importance and relevance to the complete performance of the function of the Specialized Nurse in Medical-surgical Nursing.
