This report was elaborated within the scope of the Final Internship and Report curricular unit, inserted in the 15th master’s degree in nursing with specialization in Child and Pediatric Health Nursing, at the Institute of Health Sciences, of Universidade Católica Portuguesa – Porto. It articulates the skills proposed by the course syllabus with the previously formulated objectives and the activities developed in the internship context, addressed in a critical-reflective analysis dimension. The internship took place in the context of a Community Care Unit, a Family Health Unit and a Pediatric Medical-Surgical Inpatient unit. The skills, intrinsic to specialized assistance and to obtaining a master's degree, are structured around the areas in which nurses work: Care Delivery, Care Management, Training and Research. Special emphasis was given to issues such as pain management, promotion of care partnerships and support for parenting, surveillance and the promotion of child growth and development, school health, the role of the specialist nurse as a manager of care and resources, the importance of training for professional development, both personally and with peers, and the essential incorporation of research results into practice to achieve excellence in care. In short, this report reflects my journey of successfully acquiring and developing scientific, technical, and human skills essential for an effective and quality response to the needs, challenges and complexity that are imposed today in the care of children and their families.
