Abstract

The main purpose of the current essay is to provide an overview of the overall pathway which enabled to acquire the specific skills in Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing, according to personal goals and school principles. In the area of intervention with the person with mental illness in crisis, were made two study cases and their plan care, not only identifying stress factors but were also explored all the individual resources to solve the identify problems, as well as given support and guidance in solving the crisis. Collaboration in some activities, such as relaxation sessions, community reunion and reunion of support to family of people with schizophrenia. Implemented a project of self management and adhesion of the pharmacologic therapy. Analysis of the Mental Health Law and share it with colleges about its specificities and holes. In the terms of promotion of health and preventing mental illness, were made interviews to clients of the external appointments, allowing evaluating and identifying signs of crisis, adjusting coping mechanisms and choosing healthy life styles. Was also made home visit in a way to closer support of some clients and a way of identifying alert signs. To know, the link with the community resources, seeing the nurse role beyond the appointments or the hospital setting. As a nurse working in and with the community, although acting with clients on an outpatient basis, promoting their self care and building them with strategies to deal with problems related to mental illness, were also made interviews to family of people with schizophrenic psychosis, identifying their needs regarding the illness path and etiology, burden level, coping strategies and the community resources. All of the interventions described in this essay attempted to illustrate the nurse role within a primary, secondary and tertiary prevention model and personal growth, reflecting an evolution towards an evidence-based model for health care.
