Abstract

This report arises in the scope of the curricular unit Final Internship and Report which is part of the Master's course in Nursing with Child and Pediatric Health Specialization and aims to highlight the path taken throughout the internship, describing and reflecting on the skills acquired within the scope of specialized nursing care in Child and Pediatric Nursing. The acquisition of competencies was achieved through the internship in three settings, namely: Primary Health Care, Pediatric Emergency Service, and Neonatology Service. These competencies are organized according to the four domains of nursing practice: Care Delivery, Training, Care Management, and Research. This document includes the goals set out according to these competencies, the activities carried out to achieve them, and a critical reflection on the most relevant experiences, supported by a theoretical basis, which is essential to consolidate knowledge and skills. The methodology used for the construction of the document was a descriptive and critical-reflexive methodology. The problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to integrate evidence into practice and to make reasoned decisions were worked on and strengthened throughout this journey, which presented as transversal guidelines to the different contexts the partnership of care, the promotion of parenting, the promotion of breastfeeding and bonding, pain management, and the promotion of Child and Juvenile Health. The internship and the preparation of the report were an essential contribution to my professional growth and to the acquisition and consolidation of skills that will allow me to improve the care I provide in Child Health and Pediatrics.
