This report is part of the Master's Degree in Nursing with Specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the area of Nursing for Critically Ill Patients, of the Instituto de Ciências da Saúde – Porto da Universidade Católica Portuguesa. It shows the progress made in the Curricular Unit: Final Internship and its Report, which is composed of two internship periods: Pre-Hospital Emergency and Emergency Department of a Central Hospital, from September 6, 2021 to December 18, 2021. The provision of care to critically ill patients encompasses a holistic approach, with the purpose of optimizing all interventions that may be necessary to safeguard the patient's life, being a focus of the specialist nurse. This document aims to describe all the activities developed during the two internship periods, with a view to acquiring technical, human, and scientific skills as a future specialist nurse. During this internship, the evidence-based practice was promoted, and an integrative literature review was conducted: the gain in the use of interventions in the control of urinary tract infection associated with the vesical catheter.
