Relatório final de estágio do percurso para uma enfermagem especializada

Abstract

The realization of this report comes within the scope of the curricular unit “Final Internship and Report”, inserted in the 13th Edition of the Master's Degree in Nursing with Specialization in Medical Surgical Nursing in the area of Critically Ill Patient, from the Universidade Católica Portuguesa do Porto and its goal is to mirror the path taken, in the development of specialized academic skills, as well as in professional and personal growth. This document aims to describe, analyze and reflect on the learning process for a Specialized Nursing. Thus, is presented the objectives previously outlined and accomplished, described the activities developed and the skills acquired in the internship contexts, through a descriptive and critical-reflexive methodology. This journey was carried out in a Multipurpose Intensive Care Unit and Emergency Department, focusing the learning process in the approach of the critically ill patient and family.T his report covers the contextualization of the clinical practices, a reflection on the previously acquired skills, the process of developing skills in the area of specialization, the framing of one of the research themes and a global appreciation of the learning path, as well as the main implications for the current professional practice, along with academic and personal growth. During the time in the Intensive Care Unit and Emergency Department, it was possible to develop skills in the approaching of the critical ill patient, in collecting, interpreting and evaluating data, anticipating instabilities and risk of organ failure, managing complex protocols, excellence in the technical procedures, management of care and resources, promotion of infection control strategies and resistance to antimicrobials and an ethical, deontological professional practice, based on communication, therapeutic relationship and team work. It is concluded that this learning path as a Specialist Nurse, had implications for the professional practice such as a better capacity of reflection and critical vision, a more efficient management of the patient's holistic approach and the provision of care based on a current and high-quality evidence, also contributing to the evolution of the nursing care, with the development of scientific works and formation of the team. Despite the obstacles and challenges experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic year, it is determined that this step was successfully accomplished.
