Abstract

This dissertation aims to analyze the lack of ethnic-racial representation in Portuguese print media newsrooms and how this can affect the representation of minorities. Racial-ethnic representation in the Portuguese media is not very high, with journalists belonging to these minorities working mainly in media whose economic ownership is independent. In order to carry out this research, a survey was developed aimed at all journalists in order to understand who makes up the newsrooms of the written press and how they develop their work in the representation of minorities. 120 responses were collected over a period of one month. One of the main conclusions of this dissertation is that although there are still more conflict-related representations of minorities, there is not much difference in the representation of harmony.
