Abstract

This essay focuses on understanding the Bible as Literature that extends to a perception of the Bible in Literature. We are concerned about the literary comprehension of the biblical text and the echoes of its reading. We propose to carry out a study that focuses on the dynamics of intertextuality, which joins and now extends to that which biblical authors initiated. We will focus this study on the text of the Book of Job and on Joseph Roth's novel entitled «Job»; trying to understand how this author, a Jewish novelist, reread the book of Job, namely the literary echoes between the prominent character – Mendel Singer – and the figure of Job. Could Joseph Roth's Job constitute a pertinent and dialogic update of the biblical Job? We intend to offer a possible answer.
