The central objective of this study is to understand and identify risks and health problems intrinsic to work in the hairdressers sector, taking into account the perspective of workers. Thus, and in order to achieve the proposed objectives, this study was carried out with the professionals of this sector, these being considered the best informants regarding this issue. Thus, we opted for a quantitative methodology through the implementation of the survey, health and work (INSAT) (Barros-Duarte, & Cunha, 2010). The sample is composed for 50 professionals of this sector, and all participants were female, as is also characteristic of the reality of this sector of activity. The data collected were treated using the software SPSS 20 descriptive analyses were carried out and properly contextualized and inductive, based on observations of the work in real context. With regard to the results obtained it was concluded that occupational hazards, in this sector, are particularly related to the environment and the physical constraints, in particular, with exposure to variations of temperature and chemical agents that make up products used daily. The physical constraints more evidenced concern the adoption of painful postures and stay too long standing with movements. Consequently the more health problems referred to are: numbness of limbs, frequent back pain, musculoskeletal disorders, varicose veins and skin problems. It is not enough, however, make a diagnosis of working conditions in this sector. Requires an intervention at the level of prevention and health monitoring of these workers, so that the early withdrawal of the profession particularly amongst the younger (EU-OSHA, 2014), is reduced.
