Abstract

This report comes within the framework of the master’s Course in Nursing with Specialization in Community Nursing, in the area of Community Health and Public Health Nursing, and reports on the path taken to acquire skills, resulting from the internship carried out in a Public Health Unit (USP) in the Northern Region of Portugal. The psychosocial risks associated with work activity are a public health problem of high magnitude, since they may be responsible for the phenomena of absenteeism and work presenteeism, low productivity, as well as poor motivation of professionals. In this way, the need to investigate this problem emerges due to the negative impact that it can have on the health of professionals. Health promotion strategies should focus on preventing these risks. A situation diagnosis was carried out on the psychosocial and health risks of USP professionals, based on Health Planning. It was a cross-sectional descriptive study, with a quantitative methodology, in which 17 professionals who work at USP participated. To collect data on workers' exposure to psychosocial risk factors, the instrument "Copenhagen Psychosocial Questionnaire" (COPSOQ II) medium version, validated for the Portuguese population in 2011, was used. Data analysis was merely descriptive, in order to assess the perception that professionals have about the psychosocial risk factors to which they are exposed and how they can interfere with health. The sub-dimensions perceived and evaluated as having the greatest risk for health were social support from superiors and burnout; with a moderate risk assessment emerged horizontal trust, emotional demands, predictability and stress. On the other hand, vertical trust, development possibilities and cognitive requirements emerged as protective factors for health. In view of the results, it is possible to infer that the work of these health professionals is perceived as challenging and cognitively stimulating, but very demanding and with little support from managers, factors that cause wear and tear on the team. Thus, with this intervention, it was intended to promote the awareness of professionals about the problem in order to promote organizational and individual changes and create the bases for a healthier work environment. All this work reflects the acquisition of master’s in nursing skills, and Specialist in Community Nursing in the area of Community Health and Public Health Nursing.
