Nursing is a profession with a frank evolutionary potential, which has been claiming more and more affirmation over time. To make this possible, it is imperative that each professional is able to assume their professional interventions acting with autonomy, responsibility and commitment within their field of competences. This autonomy works as an element to facilitate the professional development, as it allows greater job satisfaction (Meneses, 2004). Sharing this view felt the need to attend the Course of Specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing, taught at the Institute of Health Sciences run by the Catholic University, Centro Regional das Beiras. This work, in the form of report, is a reflection on, the difficulties and conflicts that have emerged in stages performed. The first took place in the Dialysis Unit of 26/04/2010 to 26/06/2010 and the second was conducted at the Emergency General for the period 04/10/2010 to 04/12/2010, both were made in Hospital S. Teotónio EPE. The goals set for the respective fields of stages were: Develop the ability to integrate knowledge, handle complex issues, including reflections about ethical and social responsibilities that result from those solutions and those judgments or what could conditioning them; To apply their knowledge and their ability to understand and solve problems in new and unfamiliar situations, in wide-ranging contexts and disciplines, related to the area of specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing; Be able to communicate their findings as well as the knowledge and reasoning behind them, either to specialists or non-specialists professionals, in a clear way and without ambiguity. The acquisition of skills, technical abilities, planning and decision making in complex and unpredictable situations in the context of emergency and dialysis units, was an asset in the approach to the critical patient. In this context I have acquired and developed new skills such as the ability to intercommunicate, team integration, leadership skills, innovation and adaptation to change.
