The training process is essential to optimize the quality of nursing care and it is up to the nurses to give it due attention. Facing the training as useful and innovative, the nurse can develop a work worthy of their skills and attributes. (Martins, C. e Franco, M. 2004). This report refers to the stages that make up the structure of Specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing (EEMC) of the Catholic University of Portugal (UCP). They are organized into three modules, each with a workload of 180 hours of contact with patients. Of these, two were carried out at Hospital of São Teotónio EPE (Public Business Entity), including Module I - General Emergency Room, held in the period between April 26 and June 26, and Module III - Office of Nephrology / Dialysis, which developed in the period from 04 October to 30 November, both of 2010. The document presented is intended to be a critical reflection on the journey of learning, giving emphasis to skills acquisition and also the difficulties that I was overtaking on the day to day, based on the assumptions that guide the nursing profession and aiming to achieve the objectives proposed in the draft stage. So stand out the overall objectives which are: -Know how to apply their knowledge and comprehension and problem solving in new and unfamiliar situations, in broad contexts and disciplines, related to the area of Specialization in Medical – Surgical Nursing (EEMC). -Demonstrate ability to integrate knowledge, handle complex issues, including solutions or opinions on situations of limited or incomplete information, including reflections on the ethical and social implications and responsibilities that result from those solutions and those judgments or condition them. -Being able to communicate their conclusions and the knowledge and reasoning underlying them, either to specialists or non-experts in a clear and unambiguous way. The acquisition of technical skills, planning and decision making towards complex and unpredictable situations, in the context of urgency and kidney disease, did represent a gain on the approach to critical patients. The elaboration of works and their communication consent to achieve the agreed purposes.
