The professional class's commitment to the continuous search and sustainability of nursing knowledge provides an assistance with quality, safety and dignified care, based on scientific science. Integrated in the Master's Course in Nursing with Specialization in Medical-Surgical, in the field of People in Critical Situation, at the Institute of Health Sciences - Porto, Universidade Católica Portuguesa, this report shows the activities and situations of greater relevance in the acquisition and consolidation of skills of Specialist Nurse in the course of the Internship carried out in the context of Urgency and Monovalent Intensive Care Unit. In this sense, this report was organized in such a way as, in a first phase, to make known the context of clinical practice where the Course was developed, A pessoa em Situação crítica e família: vigilância e decisão clínica, aiming to highlight the skills acquired there, namely communicational and relational. Followed by the exhibition and contextualization of the realities witnessed during the Final internship and Report, it continued according to the specific skills of the Specialist Nurse in Medical-Surgical Nursing, ending up in the central theme: Quality and Safety of Nursing Care. Based on a mostly descriptive and reflexive critical methodology, activities and reflections emerged from contact with clinical practice are reported, capable of sustaining the acquisition of specialist skills, based on quality assurance of provided care and the search for know-how, also emphasizing the analysis of activities developed, namely in the context of the safety - where the bibliographic review ended up in the development of a poster, as well as the identification of priorities and the need for intervention in the area of specialty, reflected in the development of a work within the scope of the delirium - with a view to rectifying problems in the peoples care in critical situations experiencing the disease processes, in the response to emergency situations and in the intervention and control of infection and resistance to antimicrobials. The multiplicity of activities and reflections ended up in personal and professional growth, reflected in the acquisition of specialized skills as well as their growth in the daily clinical practice, with gains in teamwork and in the mobilization of knowledge that will continue to portray a guided nursing care practice for quality. The contributions to the level of safety, the dynamism and the development of management strategies that facilitate the maintenance of safe therapeutic environments and excellent care are highlighted. It is also important to highlight the gains in the acquisition and consolidation of skills in the scope of infection prevention and control, the mobilization of knowledge and the search for a practice based on the most current evidence based on a specialized response.
