Abstract

The Master's Program in Nursing with Specialization in Surgical Medical Nursing (EEMC) of the Institute of Health Sciences of the Portuguese Catholic University was a personal objective and a fundamental strategy for the acquisition and improvement of competences. This training requirement comes associated with the growing need for nursing care as well as the inherent complexity of health care provided to the person in critical situation, it is expected that the nurse is able to mobilize a set of specific skills associated with moral ethical values, with a view to their professional development. It’s expected that the specialist nurse has a high level of specialized scientific knowledge, mobilizing resources and knowledge for a better evaluation of the practice of health care, identifying how it needs the person and his family during a transition process health / disease. The Specialist Nurse comes as an element of reference to the health team in solving problems of professional practice, acting dynamically, creatively and dynamically in the performed interventions. In this academic context, it was proposed to me an Internship Report. This report aims at a reflexive analysis of the skills acquired and developed during a course unit, inserted without a specialization course in Medical-Surgical Nursing, serving as an evaluation document to obtain the master's degree in the contact area. The purpose of this Report was to give visibility to the activities developed according to the requirement diagnosis carried out in each stage context: Emergency Service, GCL-PPCIRA (Local Coordination Group of the Program for Prevention and Control of Infections and Resistance to Antimicrobials), UCIP (Intensive Care Unit). The activities developed in these modules were defined according to the general objective of this stage, which is to develop technical-scientific and relational skills as Specialist Nurse in Medical-Surgical Nursing, through the provision of care to the critical patient and his family, taking into account essentially two Areas of knowledge: The prevention and control of the Hospital infection and the Nursing Interventions associated a Spiritual Coping strategies. I critically reviewed and understood the importance of nursing interventions to the critically ill patient and family in an ICU. A specialized practice is evidenced through the use of a culture of continuous, critical / reflexive learning, where there are acquired competences, such as perceived difficulties / limitations, such as the strategies adopted to overcome as the same and a reasoned decision-making based on the scientific evidence. All this course was fundamental to becoming a specialist nurse in Medical-Surgical Nursing.
