This report was written as part of the master’s degree in Nursing, specializing in Medical-Surgical Nursing in critical care, at the Lisbon Institute of Health Sciences of the Portuguese Catholic University. Its purpose is to demonstrate the progress made in academic and professional knowledge and competence development during an intensive care medicine internship conducted from September to December 2022. A descriptive methodology, literature review, analysis of experiences and interventions, and learning processes were used to acquire and develop common and specific competences defined by the Nursing Council. The focus of this report is on the safety of critically ill patients during intrahospital transportation. Up-to-date knowledge on this topic helps to identify the nurse's role in the entire care process. This knowledge was acquired through conducting a scoping review on the topic. In summary, this report outlines the learnings made to acquire and develop specialist competences in Medical-Surgical Nursing and a master’s degree in nursing.
