Abstract

D. José da Cruz Policarpo was Patriarch of Lisbon between 1998 and 2013. This diocese saw him grow, embrace his vocation, be ordained priest, professor of Theology, rector of the Olivais Seminary, later, auxiliary bishop and, finally, titular bishop. In this research we try to understand the aspects and challenges of being a priest for today's world in this diocese. For that, we analyze both the writings of this Patriarch and his pastoral action. Marked by the ecclesiology of the Second Vatican Council, he tried to center his ministry in prayer and communion, valuing the whole People of God, in which the priest is also inserted.
