Abstract

It is found in the history of cinema, the repeated use of themes and plots with the ability to reach viewers. From major studios to independent films, you can identify the application of a kind of formula for each narrative style, making individuals consume each film and each story as if they were unique and different. One of these genres is the Slasher. Since the seventies there are films, which obey to certain indicators easily recognizable by the viewer. Its massive success has allowed not only the creation of new titles, but also the reinvention, by offering mash ups and, above all, remakes. With this dissertation, we intend to investigate if there is consistency in the pattern of the original Slasher narratives compared to their remakes. For that, it was built the following initial question: “In which ways are the Slasher subgenre conventions worked on the remakes?” A grid composed by indicators based on the characteristics of the Slasher subgenre was developed. To fill all indicators, ten films of the Slasher subgenre were visualized - five originals and their respective remakes. The analysis leads us to conclude that the remakes enhance the alteration of defined conventions.
