Sofrimento moral dos enfermeiros em contexto pediátrico

Abstract

This assignment analyses the professional and personal learnings and difficulties found during the last phasis of the academic course to obtain a Master in Pediatric Nursing.The phenomenon of nurses´ moral distress in pediatric care was the main topic throughout this assignment, as well, during the clinical placements as it is emergent to develop more knowledge regarding the impact of institutions in nurses and in what way the care of children and their families can be harmed. Alongside this, during each placement, activities were developed to achieve competencies of a pediatric nurse, having as the main objective professional and personal development. Such as, in community care was possible to be part of work groups for children with special needs and children at risk. At the neonatology unit the focuses of learning were the nurses´ interventions during the weaning of ventilation and in the feeding autonomy for extreme premature babies. In the last placement, the pediatric ward, the aim was to gain more knowledge regarding nurses´ intervention for children and their family’s adaptation to hospitalization due to its known negative impact in the families dynamic and healthy children development.In this way, to be a pediatric nurse is to be able to coordinate important nursing theoretical subjects, like Centered Family Care, Anne Casey´ partnership in care and a traumatic care in pediatrics, with daily care, based in the most recent literature, to children and their families with growing, diverse and more complex needs. Although, nurses are not isolated healthcare workers, they are part of different contexts and within multidisciplinary teams, and, ultimately, influenced, negative and positively, by the institutions that they work for and by the society where they live.
