Abstract

INTRODUCTION: The work has a fundamental importance in the life of an individual. In this regard, in recent years has become increasingly important given the work impact on physical and mental health, it is shure that is not possible to human growth and development, which can trigger or stressful or burnout situations. METHODS: This is the assumption that this study fits. At the structural level the present report is divided into two parts. At first we present the theorical framework consisting of a literature review, which discusses theorical models and conceptual stress, burnout and coping strategies underlying. In the second part, is related to empirical investigation, where we describe the investigation, present and discuss the results. Were done for this purpose questionnaires to dentists, in order to assess the quality of life through specific instruments for measuring Stress (Copenhagen Psychosocial Questionnaire - COPSOQII) and Burnout Syndrome (Copenhagen Burnout Inventory - CBI) and general health care (Short Form-36 version 2 - SF36v2). RESULTS: The results found in this study are in line with the bibliographical research, namely, the goals of the study have been achieved for both the burnout as to the influence of the sociodemographic variables.The burnout syndrome is a state of physically effort, emotionally and mental caused by a long period of involvement in demanding emotional situations. So, the dental professionals is in permanent contact suffering, pain, despair, irritability and other reactions that could be detected in the patients due to the situation in which they find themselves. CONCLUSIONS: Dentists have high values of burnout and there are also significant differences having regard to some demographic variables. Finally this study, can contribute with a new look, alerting you to this theme in the profession of dentist
