The concern regarding the matter of stress among nurses has been increasing, due to labor features which leads to discomfort, consequently a lot these professionals end up developing chronical reactions that may reflect feeling of failing and professional exhaustion, caused by an excessive loss of energy and resources, that leads to burnout disorder, which is the highest condition of stress. Although, work related stress could have positive consequences in engagement.Thus, this study has the goal to explore the relation between work related stress,engagement and burnout, between nurses, in addition it also analyses the coping strategies used to manage the stress.The present investigation includes a cross-section study and a longitudinal study,each one with 269 e 97 nurses, respectively. The results of both studies reveal that coping mechanisms, to deal with occupational stress behave as moderator’s variables and depending on the way that those are used could result in work engagement or exhaustion or cynicism, which are associated to burnout.
