This research is part of the theme of female under-representation in the role of training coach in different sports and its main objective is to understand the perceptions of these professionals in terms of motivation to perform the role, the ability to reconcile personal and professional life and the meta-stereotypes that exist in female coaches in general. The study, which is exploratory in nature, follows a qualitative methodology. Seventeen semi-structured individual interviews were carried out with female coaches – the data was analyzed and processed using NVivo 14. The results suggest that the motivations for starting and staying in the profession are intrinsic in nature and are linked to experience as athletes in the sport and the opportunity to follow the athletes' progress. With regard to reconciling personal and professional life, it was possible to verify that the majority of the respondents believe that their professional life is their priority. With respect to understanding meta-stereotypes, it was possible to understand the existence of prejudices regarding women in the role of coach, however, some participants reported being the target of positive discrimination and privileged because of their personality. Finally, the existence of negative meta-stereotypes leads female coaches to believe that they are not competent to develop in their careers.
