The guarantee of a sustainable development has been a growing concern and objective in the different economic sectors. The services sector, and in particular the hospitality sector, was one of the most affected in the world by the pandemic, and one that made more changes to maintain their services working. Therefore, the motivation to pursue this investigation was centered not only in the personal interest by the hotels sector but also in the importance of comprehending the strategies used by these companies to face the pandemic, particularly in the social dimension. In this way, this investigation has the objective of exploring how the concept of social sustainability is implemented in the hotels sector in Portugal, understanding the importance that this dimension plays in companies and the main practices that are implemented. The methodology used was a qualitative methodology, based on 6 semi structured interviews. The interviewees were employees, of the human resources department or the board of hotels situated in Portugal, of 4 or 5 stars categories. With this investigation, it was possible to conclude, that social sustainability still plays a small role in the companies of this sector, not being a priority yet. Furthermore, it was pointed out that with the pandemic there were several practices that were suspended and some new difficulties emerged, such as finding employees to hire for operational areas.
