Abstract

The Priority Intervention Education Territories (PIET) are a policy of education measure that aims to promote educational success among students, particularly children and youths in risk of social and school exclusion. This dissertation describes the implementation of a PIET Project in an Agrupamento with a history of indiscipline and school failures. The study focuses on two actions of the PIET Project: pedagogical differentiation and curricular flexibility. The main goal of the present study is to get to know and understand the organizational and pedagogical dynamics of the school, the expectations of the participants and the results obtained. This research is a case study of an Agrupamento situated in the North of Portugal. In this Agrupamento, per year educational teams were created, with clear advantages in the coordination of the work of the teaching staff. In addition, classes were broken up in smaller units, a fact that greatly improved follow up of the students.
