Abstract

The work culture of the 21st century is getting more and more marked by employee’s concerns regarding their health, especially mental health, work-life balance issues, a need for a sense of belonging and a need of professional and personal purpose. All of these issues need to be addressed by contemporary organization, and that starts with leadership. This work shows what are the main problems, challenges and opportunities for leadership in the contemporary organizations. The main focus is on burnout, the most urgent challenge to address and solve. In this dissertation, we studied the relationship between leadership and wellbeing. For that purpose a study using quantative methods was done, by having a survey being answered in a Portuguese affiliate of a multinational company. This works also tries to propose a new way of looking at the concept of leadership, and organizational culture, based on the teachings and principles of the Society of Jesus, commonly known as Jesuits.
