The law of one

Abstract

This report describes and clarifies the creative and technical process of directing and producing the animated short film “The Law of One”. “The Law of One” explores the theme of the origin of individual consciousness in its symbiosis with the collective (human and non-human) and the borders between both. It is, therefore, an essay within the scope of philosophy and metaphysics of the individuality/supra-individuality dichotomy inserted in a line of contemporary exploration. This report provides context to the themes, references, and concepts inherent to the narrative and symbology of the animation, addressing the underlying intention of its creation and the impetus for its execution as a team. It then presents a brief description of the project and the composition of the various members of the team and their respective positions. Within the approach and treatment, the methodology applied, the artistic treatment, and the schedule for its execution are described. Subsequently, it presents a documentation of the process of elaboration of the project, from the very first idea, with the formulation of the script and storyboard, going through the pre-production, production, and post-production phases of the visual and sound components. Lastly, a reflection on the creative and technical process is provided, including an exposition of the obstacles encountered and the lessons learned, which contributed to the ultimate result. This animation is the outcome of a joint effort to express a non-linear idea, using various technical components (and, within these, various styles, each stemming from distinct individual expressions) in favour of artistic expression.
