Abstract
This study has as its goal to explore and to understand different types of evolution in trajectories of use of illegal psychoactive substances by juveniles, aiming at unveiling potentially distinct paths on the evolution of those trajectories. For this research, we have chosen the qualitative approach, since it shows potential in allowing access to the more subjective dimensions of life paths and of the use of psychoactive substances. Additionally, it enables the comprehension of the subjectivity in participants’ speech (Creswell, 2009).
The trajectory of psychoactive substances usage is characterized by the use of multiple substances with very distinct consumption frequencies. The psychoactive substances in the stimulant and psychedelics categories are deeply associated with recreational consumption, where young people very often use them to potentiate circumstances of pleasure with their peers. In addition, some juveniles concentrate exclusively in the use of cannabis, which is more related to a daily and/or regular pattern of usage. Some of them also use means that allow keeping this use in conformity with their quotidian.
Lastly, we make a multiplicity of trajectories in the use of psychoactive substances clear, which means that not all juveniles follow the same path in the evolution of this consumption.
