Abstract

The intergenerational transmission of meanings has acquired relevance in thescientific context and practice given the discoveries about the family influence on theconstruction and development of individuals’ identities. The preponderance of thesetransmissions in the familiar nucleus formed by parents and children regarding healthperceptions may play an important role in the latter’s perception of their individual health andhealth-related decision-making. These perceptions may have undergone changes due to theglobal pandemic experienced by the propagation of the Covid-19 coronavirus. The presentstudy aims to explore the transmissions of meanings of perceptions of health in parent-childdyads in which there have been cases of Covid-19 infection in the parents. The results of theanalysis showed: a) there are Actor-Partner effects in the transmission of meanings of healthperception of mother and father towards the son's health perception, in the final model inwhich only the father contracted Covid-19; b) there are Actor-Partner effects in thetransmission of meanings of the mother's health perception relative to the child's healthperception, in the final model in which only the mother contracted Covid-19; c) in the finalmodel in which none of the parents contracted Covid-19, Actor-Partner effects were found inthe transmission of meanings of health perceptions of the mother and father towards thechild's health perception; d) no Actor-Partner effects were found in the model where bothparents contracted Covid-19.
