As James and Montgomery (2017) pointed out, there is no consistent understanding of what supply chain transparency is, which means that several authors have adopted different approaches and angles to the term in question. Having said this, the objective of this final master's work is to understand what tools and practices are used by the analyzed companies to make their supply chain more transparent and, additionally, to assess the level of transparency maturity of these practices. The methodology chosen to answer the research question was based on an analysis of two large Portuguese companies. Listed companies were chosen, since they are obliged and pressured to make available complete information concerning their activities, and this was the criterion defined for the choice of the sample. The data was collected by analyzing publicly available information. After analyzing the practices of both companies, we proceeded to classify them as opaque, translucent, or transparent, a classification proposed by Lamming et al. (2001). It was concluded that the companies analyzed have a clear notion of the importance of supply chain transparency, however, they still have a long way to go to achieve total transparency. The main contribution of this dissertation, besides the development of the theme of transparency in the supply chain for the literature, is related to the systematization of the information represented in the framework prepared, which depicts a summary map on what and how to disclose pertinent information.
