Introduction: Traumatic events are defined as a personal experience of an episode involving death or threat of death or serious injury, or threat to the physical integrity, or witnessing an event involving death, injury or threat to the integrity of another person, or the knowledge of an unexpected or violent death, serious injury or threat of death or serious illness is sufficient. The individual's response to this trauma must involve intense fear, helplessness or horror. Objectives: This work aims to analyze the relationship between childhood trauma, traumatic events, and mental health, most notably Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Instruments: The instruments used were the Sociodemographic and Clinical Questionnaire, the Life Events Checklist for DSM-5 (LEC - 5), the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ) and the Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5). Method: The study was quantitative in nature, with a cross-sectional, descriptive and analytical research design and the data were obtained by completing self-report instruments. Results: Individuals who have experienced traumatic life events or a history of childhood trauma present more PTSD symptoms when compared to individuals without experiencing traumatic life events or a history of childhood trauma, and also revealed that there is a positive correlation between the events of traumatic life events, childhood trauma and PTSD, as well as traumatic life events and childhood trauma being found to be positive predictors of PTSD. Conclusions and implications: The results seem to demonstrate that individuals who have experienced traumatic life events or trauma in childhood have a higher prevalence of developing PTSD, and therefore it is important to intervene with individuals who have already experienced traumatic events or a history of trauma in childhood and the implication that This affects mental health and your daily life, thus promoting the best solutions and the best possible treatments.
