Abstract

The increased incidence of head and neck tumors has been observed over some time. The need for scientific studies that are based on characterization of the tumors, the incidence, location, evolution, aggressiveness and potential response to systemic treatment with or without radiotherapy, have to be widely performed. In this work it was made an observational and retrospective epidemiological study in witch was collected data on 96 patients, 55.2% female with an average age at diagnosis of 54.1% ± 18.9 years. Among the objectives of the study there is the evaluation of the clinical and pathological behavior of major salivary gland tumors, the correlation diagnosis (pathological findings) and treatment instituted with their prognosis and outcome. The most common pathologic entity, with 45% of the cases analyzed, was the pleomorphic adenoma and the most common malignancy in the sample cell carcinoma was the thorn (8%). The preferred sites of metastasis were the lung and lymph nodes in stages III and IV. Most patients are in clinical management (88%) and there were 11 deaths (12%).
