Abstract

The increase of the average life expectancy is considered to be one of mankind’s greatest achievements, but, paradoxically, aging is seen as one of the biggest problems in the 21st century, both in terms of the support and care needs that it creates, and in terms of the quality of life that comes with longevity. As such, it is necessary to answer society’s needs. As a result, senior tourism appears as one of the activities that improves quality of life in elderly people, as it is inevitably associated with active aging, shown in a positive light. In the last few decades, senior tourism has played a significant role in the happiness and well-being of the elderly, contributing to major improvements in physical and psychological health, hence boosting their quality of life. This work intends to evaluate the benefits of senior tourism activities for quality of life in the senior population, as well as to get a glimpse, through a projective study, the kind of impact that tourism can have on the elderly population in the coming years. For that purpose, we have done a quantitative study based on data obtained from INE and PORDATA
