Abstract

In nowadays world, schools try to follow the constant evolution of technology and to offer their students all the necessary tools, not only to understand the world around them, but also in the purpose of lifelong education, sharing creation and knowledge, and processes more than ever linked to the individual. The computers, the internet, the Web 2.0 and the cloud overpassed the school’s walls. The information, the contents and the knowledge are everywhere and can be learned in many different ways. New places to build knowledge are created every day. The educational practices need to be restructured and can be improved through the most recent technological tools available in the classrooms. This study follows the recent trends and views and came from the need to verify the impact that the use of a Learning Management System could have on primary school children. In this space, teachers and students meet and interact. The parents have access to all the contents available and follow all the work done there. The research was done in a third grade class, at the Lycée Français de Porto. A Learning Management System, especially created for students between 7 and 11 years old, called Inconito école numérique, was implemented and is available in open source. As it is a French school, where most of the classes are taught in that language, the system chosen comes from France. This research is based on a qualitative approach. Starting with the collected data, the analysis shows that the implementation of the LMS has positive aspects on third grade students. It shows to be a necessary element to support traditional education. However, it use can certainly be improved, namely in the interaction between the participants.
