This dissertation compares the conservative thought of Edmund Burke with that of Bernardo Pereira de Vasconcelos on the issue of political change. In order to determine the most salient points of convergence between them, the study catalogues, analyzes and compares some of the key concepts around which their corresponding reformist visions are articulated. The dissertation concludes that, although specific to the different historical and geographical contexts in which Burke and Vasconcelos lived and acted politically, their visions are generally convergent, particularly in the consideration of the circumstances of political action; preference for concrete experience over theoretical speculation; esteem for an orderly liberty; guidance by a cautionary prudence and a preoccupation with the conservation of the existing political institutions.
