Abstract

This two-part report, comprising the Professional Practice Report and the Pedagogical Intervention Project, was conducted within the context of the master’s in music education at Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP). The first part details my internship experience with the violin and ensemble class of Grupos de Recrutamento M24 e M32, respectively at the Academia de Música de Paços de Brandão (AMPB), encompassing internship objectives, planned and implemented strategies, student and class characteristics, lesson planning, and other relevant aspects. The second part focuses on an innovative pedagogical intervention project aimed at improving students' practice performance and well-being. As such, in context of the Pedagogical Intervention Project, the present work evaluated the impact of implementing high-performance habits (sleeping quality, physical exercise, breathing/meditation exercises, and physical activation exercises prior to violin practice) in the students’ practice performance. For data collection, the students (n = 8) were requested to briefly record their daily habits and self-assess their well-being and the quality of violin practice using the survey research method in a log named "Daily Feedback" over a period of seventeen weeks. Preliminary results indicate a moderate positive correlation between the practice of stretching and breathing exercises, well-being, and the quality of violin study, demonstrating the importance of a holistic approach to the development of a musician.
