Abstract

This report is at the heart of the course taken in the Master's Degree in Nursing, with specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing, in the area of Nursing for the Critically Ill Person, through a journey of acquisition and development of personal and professional skills. The development of skills is a continuous and dynamic process, in which it is important to mention the learning opportunities that direct contact with practice has provided. In this case, and in chronological order, in the Emergency Department, the National Institute for Medical Emergencies and in a Multipurpose Intensive Care Unit. The aim of this report is to present the process of acquisition and development of skills with a view to obtaining a Master's degree and the title of Specialist Nurse in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the Area of Critically Ill Person, as well as to contribute to the continuing construction of knowledge in nursing with a view to continuous professional and personal development, centered on reflective and reasoned practice. It uses a critical-reflective approach, through experiences in clinical contexts, individual reflection and a literature review on a method of reflecting on practice and its impact on teams, debriefing. This emerges as a tool for reflection and knowledge-sharing between teams with the aim of improving future practices and thus being a promoter of improved quality of care. Throughout the report, based on current scientific evidence, theory is related to practice. The provision of care to people in a critical situation requires specialized care and dynamic knowledge in order to respond to its high complexity.
